Candles

Expansion candle

A candle noticeably larger than those before it, usually marking new momentum entering the market.

Expansion usually marks new participation arriving: a data release, a session open, or a level giving way. The price where the expansion began often matters again later.

It says nothing about direction continuing. What it marks is that the range has changed, which is a reason to re-read the chart rather than to act.

Also called: breakout candle.
